Traditional and
Spiritual Counseling

Dr lora is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and as such offers traditional talk therapy, as well as other modalities of healing.

Additionally, as an interfaith Minister, she also offers Spiritual Counseling

Different from Traditional Mental Health therapy, Spiritual Counseling is the practice of holding space for those seeking a mind-body-spirit approach to the wellness of their soul. In this space, one can connect with God, Source or their Higher Self, in ways that are personal and meaningful. Spiritual Counseling offers a space of acceptance, non-judgement and positive regard in which the client can express their personal values and spiritual or religious beliefs and gain a deeper understanding of self and their faith in relation to what they are experiencing. Trust building and acceptance is key in the client-counselor relationship and the client's personal beliefs and culture are honored and celebrated and not influenced by the counselors personal beliefs or practices.

Spiritual Counseling includes listening with an open mind; supporting and validating the clients personal spiritual path; respect for diversity; empathy and compassion. Sessions might include contemplation, meditation, readings, prayer, silence, and conversation.

Spiritual Counseling is not therapy, and therefore does not seek to address mental health issues or behavioral changes. It does however include:

  • being in the moment with whatever questions or emotions arise

  • not being focused on change, cure, or fixing

  • being open to a connection with something greater than ourselves

Spiritual Counseling is a helpful approach to:

*Making sense of life changes

*Grief and loss

*Working on relationships with self, others and God/Source

*Healing and Personal transformation

*Forgiveness

*Wisdom of the scriptures and sacred teachings
